Circular walk from Hoby (Leicestershire) exploring the undulating countryside and villages to the south. The route uses a section of the Leicestershire Round south via Frisby on the Wreake to Gaddesby. Turning north the walk follows the Midshires Way to pass through Brooksby and Rotherby to return to the start.

The walk starts in Roby where on street parking is available close to the village hall on Main Street (grid ref. SK670174). After parking, face the village hall and take the footpath to the right of the building. Follow this between houses onto Back Lane. Cross the lane to join the Leicestershire Round (LR). Entering a field, walk half left and cross the River Wreake using a footbridge into a field. Bear half left (leaving the LR), cross the railway with care, and then walk slightly left across a large field to Hoby Road. Turn right and almost immediately left to rejoin the LR. The waymarked path crosses fields to exit onto Water Lane, in Frisby on the Wreake (grid ref. SK694177).

Turn right and right again past a stone obelisk. Continue along the road until the pavement ends. Continue ahead to pass a yellow salt bin and turn left over a stile with an adjacent fingerpost. The LR now heads south across open countryside. You soon reach the A607. Cross the road with care and bear right to a fingerpost and kissing gate. The LR then continues for nearly four kilometres to reach a lane on the outskirts of Gaddesby. Turn right and turn left through a kissing gate to follow a path with gardens on your right. Continue to Church Lane (grid ref. SK191130).

Turn right, pass the church, and continue along a path to reach Main Street. Turn right through the village. Reaching the last house on the left continue ahead along Rotherby Road. Safter 500 metres you pass Carlton Lodge Farm on your right. Just beyond the farm, turn left at the next fingerpost to join the Midshires Way (MW). After passing a small wood on your left, the MW veers half right and continues for just under two kilometres to reach the A607. Cross the main road to the road opposite and continue into Brooksby. Pass the entrance to Brooksby Hall and take the lane on the right with a cattle grid.

Follow this lane for 500 metres to reach Rotherby. Just before the church on the left, turn left through a kissing gate with adjacent fingerpost. After crossing a small footbridge, you reach the railway. Cross with care and continue along the path with the River Wreake on your left. Cross the bridge over the river and turn sharp right. The onward runs beside the river before veering left at the first bend in the river. The path leads to a road. Turn right and then right again into Main Street at the next junction. Continue past Hoby Parish Church back to the start.
